College Football 10.20.08
The first BCS rankings came out yesterday, and as always I will only focus on the top ten.
1. Texas: If you didn’t see the game Saturday night, Missouri was dominated by Texas. When Texas played OU we all were saying how their young secondary would have a hard time against OU’s passing. Well, I think they have all grown up to say the least. This Saturday OSU will be going down to Austin to play Texas. It will be a great game and I will be posting a preview on this game soon.
2. Alabama: SEC undefeated and they beat a great team in Georgia. A few people say that win wasn’t that impressive, well I will take an undefeated season halfway through the year in the SEC regardless of how I win all the games. Until they lose, they deserve this ranking and I think they are getting more and more confident each week.
3. Penn State: This weekend is going to be tough on them playing Ohio State. I wish facts didn’t have to be brought into this discussion, but honestly the athleticism of Ohio State should be able to bring Penn State back to reality. They have had a great run, and a great story, but Penn State will fall this weekend.
4. Oklahoma: Their only loss was against the now #1. Oklahoma should have no problems for the next 4 weeks. On November 22, though is the game against Tech, and the following week agains OSU. I can’t wait to see how this all shakes out. With Alabama and Penn State losing, and Texas having tech and OSU before OU there is a lot of eyes looking to see what the matchup will be when OU and OSU plays.
5. USC: I have mentioned this before, but because they are in a weak conference and the love affair they have with the national media I don’t see them falling anytime soon.
6. Oklahoma State: No one can say they are under the radar anymore. This weekend with the game against Texas we will see just how good they are, but I am not going into much detail here. Worse case for them, if they lose- it is to number 1.
7. Georgia: Doing great in the SEC and their one loss is against undefeated number 2. They play LSU this weekend and that will be a great game. I think Georgia will lose and LSU will easily outscore the bulldogs.
8. Texas Tech: Still undefeated in the Big 12 with a few close games. Their schedule is going to drastically get tougher in the next few weeks and they will probably fall at least 2 games before the season is out.
9. Ohio State: Their matchup this weekend against Penn State will show just how good of a team they are.
10. Florida: Their strength of schedule is keeping them around the top 10. I look forward to when Florida plays Georgia to show me if they are really as good as thier ranking.

since i wrote this today and unknowingly put it on last weeks, here it is again, and MG i love a good football debate, i played football for 20 yrs of my life, and loved every minute of it, i was one of the few 10 yr olds that could tell you the difference between a 3-4 and a 4-3 defense, so needless to say i dont hate anyone, just love to argue about football!

OK heres to all the Bandwagons, and idiots who are talking smack, and hopefully this will put a little reality back into your dream world that you are all living in…..BCS Top 10 rundown……
#1 Texas Longhorns, Well what can you say, they beat Oklahoma. Gave all the dumb OSU and Texas fans something to bump their gums about for a few weeks. Texas beats Oklahoma State this weekend, so then the idiots wont know what to say because their happy either way and really, that’s fine, let them pick 2 teams and hope one of them beats OU. Texas loses to a #18 ranked Texas Tech teams that loses this week to Kansas. Then Texas will fall back into reality at the #10 ranking they deserve and end this season with a conference championship and a bid to the Fiesta Bowl.
#2 Alabama, They are not near as good as you people think they are. This is absolutely the craziest thing I have ever seen in college football. Everyone is riding this bandwagon to the fullest extent, and Alabama is undefeated yes, but barely beating bottom tier teams. The “key” win against Georgia was not even as great a win as everyone thinks. Alabama loses at Tennessee this weekend and at LSU 11/08/08.
#3 Penn State, Now here is a team to finally get excited about. The wonderful Jo-Pa! Great for him to finally have all his ducks in a row. Unfortunately Penn State comes plummeting down this weekend to Ohio State, and going into Iowa with a hangover, they fall short to the Hawkeyes the following week.
#4 Oklahoma, the loss to Texas was bad but do not count them out just yet. Oklahoma wins out the remainder of the season. Beating OSU in a close game at the end of the season, and giving them their #1 bid to the National Championship. Get the oranges out ladies and gentlemen, Oklahoma is on their way to Florida. Only bad thing about that is, they will be playing Florida in that game. Oklahoma comes in and shocks the Florida defense with the no huddle offense and jumps out to a 45-14 lead at the half in that game. Florida makes a run in the second half, but Oklahoma wins the National Championship 59-35.
#5 USC, Here they are once again in the top of the polls and seriously becoming the Miami Hurricanes of the new era. Meaning they are not that great but because of their name are still nationally recognized. Their weak sister schedule and one more loss to California will put them in between 15-20 where they should rightfully be.
#6 Oklahoma State, Should really be in there at #5 but seriously this is a get it while the gettin’s good type situation that we got going on here. Pickens has done more with his money than anyone really thought he could do, but unfortunately putting a multi million dollar coaching staff around a ignorant head coach is not the wise decision to make. Oklahoma State loses to Texas and Oklahoma to finish the season with a great record and goes to the Holiday Bowl.
#7 Georgia, Here is where it gets kind of tricky rounding out the SEC. I think Georgia is a good football team, but I honestly think that they will lose 2 more games before this year is over. I think they lose to Florida and Georgia Tech.
#8 Texas Tech, TT has not really shown anything that just screams top 10 team to me just yet. The existence of their high powered air attack is as it always has been since Mike Leech’s introduction as head coach. They lose to Kansas, yet I think that Tech is the one remaining team on Texas’ schedule that has the ability to beat them. Texas has a young secondary who is actually playing great, but I think Techs air attack proves too much for them, Tech beats Texas in a shocker 55-52.
#9 Ohio State, have you ever had one of those flies that just buzzes around you and no matter how many times you swat at it, it just wont go away! Well then you understand the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio State has found a new game in Terrell Pryor, by that they will beat Penn State this weekend. But don’t get too cocky or else Northwestern will just sneak up and smack you in the mouth the following week. Northwestern beats Ohio State and finally gets them out of the picture, hopefully for good!
#10 Florida, Just when you think they were out here they come surging back. I think that Flordia will win out the rest of the regular season, and win the SEC. That’s why I think they will be playing in the National Championship against Oklahoma. They have a tough road to travel, but very do-able.

and ESPN.com has a headline titled “2 of the top 3 teams still have to win conference championships”. either i am reading it wrong or was mistaken, i thought you didnt have to win your conference to play in the national championship? did they change something?

I haven’t read the article, yet. Here is my take though, IF Texas wins out, then they will play for the Big 12 Championship. That leaves OU and OSU with great records not playing. So if OSU only loses to OU and Texas that means they lost to 1, and probably 3. The media won’t do a rematch for a national title game and so this year will be the year that the BCS is proven to be a crock when one conference is hands down better than the rest.

Yeah i knew that Texas would play if they win out. What i was saying is Texas, Alabama, and Penn State lose, but Texas wins the BIG XII. Oklahoma would seemingly move into #1 again, they should be able to play for the title being #1 even if they dont play in the Big XII championship. Actually if Texas loses and still wins the Big XII championship game they would probably jump OU in the BCS. If they lose one and lose the Big XII CHampionship game OU should play in the BCS title game. Of course OU has to win out. Its so hard trying to break down the BCS when the makers of the BCS cant even do it.

All i hope for is that USC is not there, I dont care if they win out, they do not deserve to be there this year. You want to talk about CUP CAKES the Pac 10 has gone so far south this year. No one offers any threat to USC in that conference, but they do have those 2 games against Cal and UCLA. Both teams suck but its like the OU and OSU game no matter who is what, both teams are 0-0 at the end of the year when that game comes around.

I can’t see your top ten coming true, I will do some thinking and give my predictions later. I don’t see OSU going that far down in the rankings if they lose to a team higher in the rankings. Pretty much I can’t see from 7-10 being right.

Ok I think I understand what they are saying now, that the teams have to win the conference to stay where they are. Of course Penn State not having a conference championship game makes it a little easier and will factor in voting.
