Texas-OU controversy
“It’s clear who the 2008 Big XII South champion is. The Texas Longhorns. It was settled on the field October 11th when the Horns beat OU 45-35. But somehow, many have forgotten. Show your support by contacting voters, holding signs, passing out fliers, whatever it takes. Longhorn nation, we will remember.” Courtesy of www.texasbeatoklaho ma.com.
WOW, Texas fans are you serious? You know why you won that game in Dallas, and honestly you should know that it would not happen again. Oklahoma played a game without a middle linebacker, so basically texas offense vs 10 defensive players in the second half, when they actually won the game. I would sure hope that you could win that matchup.
What it boils down to is that YES Oklahoma lost to Texas, BUT Texas lost to. Just because Oklahoma absolutely hammered Tech doesnt meant that the loss all of a sudden doesnt count! It is a 3 way tie between 3 good teams. What I think that Texas fans should look into is, Oklahoma has progressed into a much better team, with a solid run game and an unstoppable passing game. On top of that their defense has blossomed at the right time and Texas fans know that Oklahoma is better, that is why they have produced this website.
Get over it Texas, a win is a win, and a LOSS is a LOSS. Oklahoma has 1, Texas has 1. Are you forgetting that if for some reason Oklahoma loses Saturday, TEXAS TECH goes to the Big XII game and with a good enough performance goes the NC. Because YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE HEAD TO HEAD!!! Isnt that your argument?

Alright, the reason the head-to-head no longer counts in this situation is the three way tie. This is not a matter of three teams each having one loss each, but the fact that their losses are all to each other.
If Texas is allowed to use the logic that they should win b/c of head-to-head then Tech must proceed b/c they beat TX. Then of course OU will make it because they killed Tech…but then…
Of course everyone keeps repeating it: BCS standings determine the Big 12 South Champ. I will be interested to see what ends up being the “determining” factor.
Here is my logic: Tech is technically out of the running due to the overwhelming loss to OU and their low spread today. Texas has been ahead in the polls since Red River and may likely continue. Except for the spoiler…I think the fact that Texas played an unranked team and had almost no challenge in their win today will hurt them slightly. With OU squeezing 20 points ahead of OSU (#15) and playing a very difficult game with multiple fumbles and a beautiful sack there is a good chance that they BCS standing will reflect with a slight lead for OU.
But that only determines next weeks game. Looking into the future is more interesting.
Let’s say Texas keeps their slight lead and goes to Big 12 game next week against Mizzou. Considering the game today I don’t know if Mizzou has it in them to beat a top rank South team. Texas will likely win and continue to Miami. At that point I believe they will lose to Alabama.
On the other hand let us say that OU makes it. There are two major scenarios here. First, OU plays real time football and wins the champs. They continue to Miami. The game will be great with a toss up for which teams offense can pull it through. At that point OU’s special teams failing will come back to haunt them unless Stoops can fix it in the few weeks leading up to the big game.
Or let us take scenario #2. OU heads to KC to meet Mizzou and all that past tension from last year comes to head. Since I am a living Sooner in the midst the heart of Mizzou I have personal experience with the tension and pain the team feels and this could be revenge. That extra need for retaliation and past experience playing OU may just allow them win, if only by a field goal or two-point conversion. At that point OU doesn’t go to the BCS Champs and Mizzou can’t go so that is the back door for Texas to jump in.
No matter how we look at it both OU and Texas will end up at BCS bowls. Tech may even get invited as well. Overall, there really is no lose for the Big 12 in general. We will have someone at the champs and likely control at least one other bowl.
