Rematch anybody?…

Posted by Josh on December 2, 2008 – 9:40 am

First off I would like to take this time to say, it has been a pleasure! Now down to business!

When the weekend presented us all with a shocking blow that proved to be what Oklahoma fans had been hoping for since October 12, 2008, you had to think that there is no chance. On the contrary, if you look closely, it is very possible. Alabama remains #1  in the Harris and the USA today polls. Oklahoma is ranked #1 in the computers, Alabama is ranked #3. Texas is ranked #2 in the computers, #3 in the Harris and USA today polls. Florida on the other hand is ranked #2 in the Harris, #4 in the USA today, and #6 in the computers.

So upon further review, after seeing what the computer rankings are capable of, anything is possible, anything. So if you take into consideration that its obvious that loss to Ole Miss in Gainesville, is killing Florida in the computers, then its not so out of the question. You know the voters are hurting for redemption after what has occurred this week. So if for some reason Florida squeaks by Alabama, in a ball game where neither team scores 30 points, you have got to believe that Texas has an outside shot of sneaking into the following weeks BCS at #2. So Texas fans don’t think that you are out of this just yet.

What would this mean for college football? What would it do for the Big XII conference? If somehow the nation decides after this weekend, that Oklahoma and Texas are the #1 and #2 teams in the country, which I think they are, how huge do you think that would be? I know that this would be the first time in 105 years that they play each other twice in one season, and it would be the first time that 2 teams from the same conference will play each other in the National Championship game. I think that this would turn out to be the greatest National Championship since the inception of the BCS.

You would have to think it would be a great game and you know Oklahoma would love to get another shot at Texas, as well as Texas would love prove their dominance. The opportunity is there and available, will the voters do it? Most likely not, will Florida barely beat Alabama? Probably not going to happen there either, but that’s another story, another time, possibly today.

I say if it doesnt happen then OU and Texas should find a walmart parking lot somewhere and get the pads on and let it rain!!!

I think a split championship is slightly more realistic than a rematch… unfortunately voters would do anything in their power not to let that happen.

Not that it couldn’t happen (and I do agree it would be a great rematch) I can’t see a rematch realistically happening. Although I still stand by my Alabama v. OU prediction. The game is happening right now and I still believe Alabama has a chance. I also think it would make for a better championship game.

As for the OU/Mizzou game tonight, well even here in Mizzou territory the sports predictions have a very crimson shine… I just want all the bowls to get sorted out soon so I can make my bowl picks and buy my plane ticket already.
