Brett Favre Retires… again
No. 4 The last of the great QBs is retiring. His era of QBs include Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, Steve Young, John Elway, Warren Moon, Phill Simms, Dan Marino and Jim Kelly. What does all these quarterbacks have in common? The Hall of Fame. If I missed someone I apologize I did this off the top of my head.
So this is my question to you, my favorite sports fans. I would like you to rate the best quarterbacks that played at some point in the last 18 years. Lets see where Favre ranks with the best of the best. Here are some facts to remember about Favre.
At of the end of the 2008 regular season, Favre owned or shared most of the well-known NFL career records for quarterbacks, including:
- Consecutive starts by a quarterback: 269 (291 including playoffs)[5]
- Games started by a quarterback: 269 (291 including playoffs)[83]
- Career regular-season victories by a starting quarterback: 169 (Regular-season record: 169-100)[5]
- Career passing touchdowns: 464[84][85]
- Career passing yards: 65,127[84]
- Career pass completions: 5,720[86][5]
- Career pass attempts: 9,280[5][4][87]
- Career interceptions thrown: 310[84][88]
- Career games with at least three touchdowns: 65[49]
- AP NFL MVP awards: 3 (1995, 1996, 1997)[89] (tied with Peyton Manning)
- Career playoff interceptions thrown: 28 (tied with Jim Kelly)[88]
- Career playoff losses as starting QB: 10 (tied with Dan Marino)
Favre is one of four quarterbacks to lead the league in touchdown passes four times. The others are Johnny Unitas, Len Dawson and Steve Young.[90]
Favre is one of three NFL quarterbacks to have beaten all 31 other NFL teams in his career.[48]
In addition, Favre owns a number of team records, having printed his name into almost every passing category in the annals of Green Bay Packers history. Most recently, he set the team record for consecutive completions with 20 on November 22, 2007, against the Detroit Lions.[91] With 39 “come-from-behind” 4th-quarter wins and three more overtime victories (Packers total of 40 makes him Green Bay record holder), Favre is second only to John Elway’s 47 4th-quarter or OT “come-back wins”, in NFL history.
I pulled these records off of wikipedia. So get out your thinking caps and put together your lists for me. I promise there are no wrong answers and i will have my list up on Monday.

I would need some time to work on my list, but I’m not quite sure I can put him anywhere outside the top 5. His list of accomplishments far exceeds that of most. Its a sad day to see him go, again, and I feel he should have stayed retired. I don’t think neither Brett or the Jets are better off by him coming back and playing last year. Guess we will see how the Jets recover from this. I smell a Matt Casel trade attempt in the future.
