NFL Rankings… if there was such a thing.

Posted by M.G. on October 6, 2008 – 5:18 pm

I realize that Monday night football is left to be played, but Minnesota and New Orleans isn’t in the top 5 teams anyhow.  The trick about NFL football is that the best aren’t always in the playoffs.

For instance, right now Philly is 2-3, but if they were in the NFC West they would be dominating that division.  Hard to believe that the NFC Champion will more than likely come from the East.

On the AFC side Tennessee is still the only unbeaten, while Indy is really underperforming in their divsion due to injuries.  I expect a strong run once Bob Sanders returns to help out the pitiful run defense they have been showing so far.

Right now across the board the best five teams are N.Y. Giants, Tennessee Titans, Washington Redskins, Denver Broncos, and Buffalo Bills.

The Giants are on a roll again, seems they can play no matter what happens in the off season- it is nice to see that a Championship team isn’t falling to the wayside like the pattern has been the last couple of years.  The Titans are a mystery to me.  I hate watching them play; it is ugly, but they win.  The Redskins are proving to everyone that they shouldn’t be overlooked in the power division.  Denver is going to have to work on their defense against the run to be able to be a true play off contender, but they keep winning.  The Bills are having the best season that I have seen since the Jim Kelly days.

I know a lot of our readers will ask why I didn’t include Dallas Cowboys.  They are just outside the top 5 and once they show me a little more heart and consistency they will probably take over the Bills.

Think I have any of this wrong?  Feel free to let me and everyone else know why.  Comment!

I’m not sure I would place the Bills up in the top 5. Yeah they have 1 of the best records in the NFl, but they haven’t exactly had a tough schedule. If I were to rank the teams, I would go with the NY Giants, Tennessee Titans, Washington Redskins, Carolina Panthers, and Chicago Bears. The Panthers and the Bears are highly underrated for how well they are performing.

Carolina over Broncos? That hurts. I realize I have a twinge of bias, but still Carolina isn’t blowing me away.

I only rank Carolina that high because they have one of the best defenses in the league. Not sure if you have checked recently, but Denver’s defense is about as scary as a 2 year old in a Barney costume.

Oh and I’m upset with Denver right now… Brandon Marshall had a crappy game and killed my fantasy team this week.

You know as well as I do that there is a give and take in the NFL. Each team has to be able to pay its money to one facet of the team. Denver is in the top 5 of every offensive category while Carolina is the middle of the pack. Even with a lackluster defense if you can outscore most opponents you will win. Denver is improving weekly and their defense will be middle of the pack by season’s end- it always is. Carolina’s good, but not top 5.

When you start off the season with 15 catches in a game, most defenses are going to try to shut you down… don’t worry he will get his catches, don’t give up on him as a fantasy receiver.

Brent you just rocked my world by including the Bears in your ranking, they deserve so recognition once in a while cuz they have sucked for so long its nice to see them do well for once, Go Bears!

Chicago has surprised me, and many other people with their outstanding offensive play this year. The defense has played well, which was to be expected. I really think that the Bears have a good shot this year with Orton at the helm. He has done a great job this year, and with a back like Forte to give the ball, you can’t go wrong. If they can get an established go-to receiver they will be unstoppable.
