Heisman Voting

Posted by M.G. under College Football, M.G. (No Respond)

This is pretty much a public service announcement.  Take this link to go to the Heisman Voting site that is sponsored by Nissan.  This year’s vote is going to be close and the winner of the poll on this site gets one vote from Nissan for the Heisman.  (can we say politics?)  Anyhow go vote for you think should win, and if you don’t want to think and just go with my opinion- Sam Bradford.

BCS, again….

Posted by M.G. under College Football, M.G. (No Respond)

First of all before I begin my take on the BCS and the events that have transpired in the last couple of weeks- I want to say thank you to Josh for taking over the helms of the site while I was away with holiday stuff.  I am back in the saddle and ready to go!

Oklahoma did it!  They are number 2 in the BCS and will go to the National Championship game after a victory against Missouri.   Yes, Lou Holtz is right, if next Saturday night Texas and OU were playing for the Big 12 championship then there would be no more debates.  Although he is right, that is fantasy.   Lets talk about reality. Texas-OU controversy

Posted by Josh under College Football, Josh (1 Respond)

“It’s clear who the 2008 Big XII South champion is. The Texas Longhorns. It was settled on the field October 11th when the Horns beat OU 45-35. But somehow, many have forgotten. Show your support by contacting voters, holding signs, passing out fliers, whatever it takes. Longhorn nation, we will remember.” Courtesy of www.texasbeatoklaho ma.com.

WOW, Texas fans are you serious? You know why you won that game in Dallas, and honestly you should know that it would not happen again. Oklahoma played a game without a middle linebacker, so basically texas offense vs 10 defensive players in the second half, when they actually won the game. I would sure hope that you could win that matchup.
What it boils down to is that YES Oklahoma lost to Texas, BUT Texas lost to. Just because Oklahoma absolutely hammered Tech doesnt meant that the loss all of a sudden doesnt count! It is a 3 way tie between 3 good teams. What I think that Texas fans should look into is, Oklahoma has progressed into a much better team, with a solid run game and an unstoppable passing game. On top of that their defense has blossomed at the right time and Texas fans know that Oklahoma is better, that is why they have produced this website.

Get over it Texas, a win is a win, and a LOSS is a LOSS. Oklahoma has 1, Texas has 1. Are you forgetting that if for some reason Oklahoma loses Saturday, TEXAS TECH goes to the Big XII game and with a good enough performance goes the NC. Because YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE HEAD TO HEAD!!! Isnt that your argument?

Texas Tech vs Oklahoma

What could be a bigger match up than this? #2 vs #5 and absolutely everything any team plays for is riding on the outcome of this game. Whoever loses this game will lose their shot at the Big XII championship and their shot at the national championship. This IS the biggest game of the year, nothing this season has had more to be decided upon it than this game. Sports fan, writers, announcers, Game day crew, and even movie writers should be foaming at the mouth for this game. No pressure or anything Raiders and Sooners!

Every eye in America will be tuning into ABC at 7 pm Saturday night to watch this one. If your wanting to watch a shootout, you better be ready! You have the #1 ranked offense, in Oklahoma, against the #3 ranked offense in Tech. Oh by the way these offenses are going against the #52 ranked scoring defense (Tech), and the #56 scoring defense (Oklahoma). Now it’s very hard to say that either of these teams are bad defenses considering that most of the points scored against them come late in the game when the mop up crews are in.

I think that this game will come down to whose defense shows up and whose stayed at home. You are not going to totally shut down either offense. Techs Head Coach Mike Leach is probably one of the better offensive minds in college football. I think he will definitely be moving on the greener pastures and coaching on Sundays someday. Oklahoma has been trying to find his replacement since 2000, and I believe they have in Kevin Wilson.  This offensive strategy he has brought to Oklahoma has turned into what it is, the best in the country.

The question of the day, or even the week, is,  which defense will be clicking on Saturday? Will Frank Alexander step up and replace All American Austin English? Will Austin Box come into his own this weekend and be able to cover Eric Morris sneaking across the middle? How well can Brian Jackson cover Michael Crabtree? Or will it be Lendy Holmes put in man coverage on him? All of these questions have got to be brewing throughout Norman, OK.  Now on the other hand, will Techs defense be able to push through the nations top offensive line? Will they be able to cover Jermaine Gresham? Are their cover corners going to handle the stable of receivers Oklahoma has? Are they going to be able to stop the rushing attack that has come back into form in the last few weeks in Norman?

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind the offenses will be scoring, but the suspect defenses on both sides of the ball will have to come out on the main stage and show off what we have not seen yet this year. This game has the resume of ending 100-99 at the final whistle. Who can stop who?

When the smoke clears, all the schooner stampedes have ended, all the crowd roars are over, and all the finger pistols are holstered, you will look up to the southern sky and in plain view you will see one of the biggest high definition TVs you have ever seen. On that board you will see the ending results of the greatest college football shootout ever. Oklahoma 66 Texas Tech 52. Boomer Sooner!

Bowl Projections….

Posted by Josh under Sports in general (No Respond)

Well, let me start by saying that I have never been a huge fan of the people who start making Bowl predictions after the first week of the year. Honestly if you are making a prediction, it cannot change every week. A prediction is a prediction, what has been going on this entire season for them, is a guessing game, and most of the time they just say the teams that are #1 and #2 that week are the teams who will play for the title. Well, I am here to say this is what I am predicting for the BCS bowl games. It’s not going to change, there is only about a month left, and it is prime time to make some predictions. Let me remind all of you, no bias will play any role in my predictions, and that all fans of any team should know that these are professional predictions, I asked the magic 8 ball this morning. So with that being said, here goes…..

Rose Bowl presented by Citi.. The Ohio State University vs the Oregon State Beavers.

The reason I have picked these 2 teams to go to this bowl game is Ohio St will beat Michigan hands down and Penn St will lose to Michigan St. I don’t see Oregon St losing to Arizona or at home against in state rival Oregon.

FedEx Orange Bowl…. Cincinnati Bearcats vs Miami Hurricanes.

The reason I have picked these 2 teams to go to this bowl game is Cincinnati will win the Big East and Miami will win the ACC.

Allstate Sugar Bowl… Alabama Crimson Tide vs USC Trojans

This will be the dream match up for USC. This is a team that was ranked #1 for a number of weeks, and USC will get their chance to showcase their talent against a top 5 opponent. USC will pick up the at large bid after Oregon St wins the Pac 10, and Alabama will be the SEC host in this match up.

Tostitos Fiesta Bowl… Utah Utes vs Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Texas Tech will be the Big XII host in this game to a non BCS school who wins the at large bid. Utah has a very good chance of winning out and staying ranked ahead of Boise St.

FedEx BCS National Championship game goes to… Florida Gators vs Oklahoma Sooners.

Oklahoma has the toughest stretch of games it has played since the 2000 season. I think Oklahoma wins out and locks their bid in as the Big XII champion. Florida has a date with the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC championship but will handle them easily.

This has been a real pleasure bringing you the outcome of this season! Stay tuned tomorrow I will bring you scores and winners of the bowl games!

Heisman Running….

Posted by Josh under College Football, Josh (No Respond)

Well we are 3 weeks and 1 day from the end of the regular season and what a show it has been. Amongst the nations elite are 6 football players from the Big XII conference. Out of 9. This stat alone just goes to show how dominant the league has been this year. According to ESPN.com the top 3 is listed like this… Read More…

What now for the BCS…..

Sitting here looking into the weeks ahead in college football, I started thinking to myself, “what if.” Yes I have fallen into that what if group that loves to talk about what if this happened what if that happens. Well, its simply put IT COULD happen. Now your saying “What, what could happen?” That dream game everyone north or the Red River is screaming for, that game that everyone is just needing. There is a small possibility that your National Championship game could be a…. “Red River Rematch?” It honestly looks as if it could play out. Likely? Probably not with the way Florida is playing, but COULD happen. If Florida was to lose to South Carolina, then beat Alabama in the SEC championship game, and OU and Texas win out. That would leave OU #1 and Texas #2 in the final BCS standings. Unless the BCS plays favorite to USC and allows them to undeservedly jump over Texas. It could really happen, for OU fans it NEEDS to happen. What would be more spectacular? This was deemed the season OU was supposed to dominate, they lose to Texas after losing Ryan Reynolds and a few controversial personal foul penalties. Not crying just speaking the facts. Colt McCoy is still being hyped as the best player in college football, Sam could let him have it and blast them in the NC game. Its a chance for OU & fans to redeem themselves after a loss in the shootout. Last but not least it would be a chance for Big Game Bob to take his place back atop the coaches chart with a victory over his arch rival Mack Brown in a big game on the national stage in a BCS game.

The fairy tale ending is playing out. Will it happen? who knows. Do I want it to happen? You bet your shorthorn backside I do!! You be the judge, what do you think about a red river rematch?

OU and Texas Tech

Could there be a longer two week waiting period? I remember as a kid waiting for Christmas and not being this excited. The two weeks before my Broncos would play (and win) in their Super Bowls was even easier to wait out than this matchup coming up between Texas Tech Red Raiders and Oklahoma Sooners! Read More…
